Audi customer teams Alex Job Racing and APR Motorsport gave the Audi R8 GRAND-AM a 1-2 victory in the GT class at the Daytona 24 Hours. The #24 R8 of Filipe Albuquerque/Oliver Jarvis/Edoardo Mortara/Dion von Moltke crossed the finish line just 1.4 seconds ahead of the #52 R8 of Ian Baas, Marc Basseng, René Rast and Frank Stippler.
In dramatic closing stages all three Audi customer teams Alex Job Racing, APR Motorsport and Rum Bum Racing chose different strategies. Following a between René Rast (R8 #52) and Markus Winkelhock (R8 #13) which dropped the Rum Bum R8 from first to seventh place, Rum Bum Racing opted for a fuel gamble which, however, didn’t work out: On the final lap, the #13 R8 stopped with an empty fuel tank.
APR Motorsport called René Rast in the #52 R8 into the pits for a final stop for fuel and tires 40 minutes from the end of the race. Alex Job Racing instead decided to leave Filipe Albuquerque on track as long as possible and to bring him in for a late splash-and-dash just 15 minutes from the end. Albuquerque was able to just maintain the lead after his pit stop and secured Alex Job Racing the victory at their first race with the Audi R8 GRAND-AM.
At the start of its second season it was the first ever victory for the Audi R8 GRAND-AM in the GRAND-AM series.
