The 2018 Q5 has dropped much of its camouflage, giving us the best look yet at the next-generation crossover.
The B9 Q5 will soon follow the B8 A4 and share it’s new lightweight MLB architecture. We are expecting Audi to remove the rest of the black cladding within the next few months. Potentially as soon as the LA Auto Show next month.
The Q5 will have all the same options of the new A4 with the LED headlights, Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound SystemAudi Virtual Cockpit, Heads-Up Display and the new Driver Assistance Systems.
At launch we are expecting the some engine configurations to carry over. Also, the 7-speed S ironic transmissions will replace the 8-speed tiptronic. There’s rumors of a lower output version of the single turbo 3.0 TFSI but we are expecting Audi to pass on a V6 in favorite of the 252 hp/272 lb-ft 2.0 TFSI and the 3.0 TDI for North America. The 225 pounds lost with the switch to the MLB architecture should give it similar performance to the old supercharged 3.0 TFSI.
We also, expect the e-tron trend to continue in some way with the Q5. It will replace the slow selling Q5 hybrid.
Scott Keogh confirmed to us at IAA that the SQ5 will live on. The SQ5 will use the all new single turbo 3.0 TFSI from S4 with the power expected to be around 360 horsepower/370 lb-ft.
