SQ8 TDI Premieres in Europe with More Torque, Less Power than S8 TDI

Endowed with a whopping 663 lb-ft of torque and a reasonable 430 hp, Audi has finally taken the wraps off the SQ8, albeit just the TDI version for now.

That power and torque come from a 4.0-liter V8 Diesel engine that returns 30 mpg—provided you’re being reasonable. If you’re not, you can get to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds and all the way up to 155 mph.

The power goes to all four wheels (do we even need to say that anymore? Just assume it’s so unless otherwise stated) through an 8-speed tiptronic transmission.

As you’d expect, the SQ8 TDI also comes with Audi drive select dynamic handling and can be raised three-and-a-half inches to suit on or off-road driving.

The exterior, meanwhile, has been made to look a little more aggressive with louvers bracketing the grille. That grille is also surrounded by a matte silver frame, and similar accents have been added around the SUV.

21-inch wheels are standard, but 22s can be optioned and LED lights with high-beam assist are standard.

Inside, the SQ8 TDI has been kept dark to match its seriousness. Sports seats are embossed with S logos to make sure you don’t go flying across the car in hard corners.

And you get all of that for a starting price of 102,900 euros.
