During the annual Audi Press conference today, Audi came out with some great news for those of use patiently awaiting more Clean Diesel TDI options. During this press conference we received details about the record breaking year that Audi enjoyed in 2010 is continuing into 2011. The market for Audi here in the USA is strong and healthy. One key benefit of the strong market growth is that it gives Audi the ability to expand its current offerings. One of the biggest area of expansion will be the increase in highly efficient Clean Diesel TDI options. As we have seen in 2010, the TDI offerings in the Q7 and A3 have been among the most successful parts of the sales story for this past year.
At the end of his presentation, Audi USA president, Johan de Nysschen answered questions from the media. One of the questions specifically asked which cars will get TDI engines and when would we see them. His answer was that we will see TDI options arriving within the next 24-30 months powering the new A8, new A6 and Q5. When asked about the A4 he said that we will not see anything until the 2015 at which time the B9 chassis A4 is expected to be released. We are hopeful however that we may see the TDI Audi A3 continue with the next version due out in 2013.
We are very excited about this strong push towards TDI Clean Diesel options from Audi USA. We are hopeful that these options not only come sooner than expected, but that they will lead to further increase in Audi’s growing market share.
Another big news item was the confirmation that we will see the new R8 based e-tron released in 2013. If you are interested in one of these I suggest you get on the waiting list right now since there will likely only be a handful of them brought into the USA.
